Portland Bill Lighthouse is automated

Portland Bill Lighthouse is converted to automatic operation and the keepers depart; monitoring and control of the station was transferred to the Trinity House Operations & Planning Centre at Harwich.

The current lighthouse was built in 1906, and a light has been exhibited from the point since 1716.Today the operational lighthouse is open to the public for much of the year as a visitor centre.

More information about the lighthouse and the towers that preceded it is available at the Trinity House website.
